Prime Paddlesports is excited to be offering our first Women’s Wilderness First Aid Course at Sharpe Reservation in Fishkill, NY over the dates of April 27-28, 2019. SOLO’s Wilderness First Aid class is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who wants or needs a basic level of first aid training for short trips with family, friends, and outdoor groups. This course meets and/or exceeds the minimum requirements for many outdoor pursuits, including club or camp employment, guiding and leading trips for many organizations and will be led by the experienced and capable Kate Carcio.
Kate Carcio is an experienced wilderness medical provider and outdoor educator/industry professional with over 15-years of experience. Kate works as a senior backcountry instructor for Northern Vermont University. She has extensive experience leading extended whitewater expeditions (including the Grand), and numerous unsupported backcountry winter and backpacking trips. Kate is a senior patroller for both ski and mountain bike seasons at Burke Mountain in Vermont. She is a WEMT, Outdoor Emergency Care instructor for the National Ski Patrol, Wilderness First Aid Instructor for SOLO, and a head trainer for Burke Mountain patrol. When not patrolling or teaching, Kate loves backcountry snowboarding, mountain biking, climbing, and whitewater paddling.
The WFA Course is two days (16 Hours), and focuses on the basic skills of Response and Assessment, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Environmental Emergencies, Survival Skills, Soft Tissue Injuries, and Medical Emergencies. Participants who successfully complete the course receive a SOLO WFA certification, which is good for two years. The price per person is $225 for the SOLO WFA Course. An optional add-on SOLO Adult CPR & AED Course will be offered on Saturday night from 6:30-8:30 PM at $55 per person to compliment the WFA offering and will run if we have a minimum of six participants. Participants are responsible for bringing their own outdoor equipment (in their preferred sport) to practice with during the course, providing their own meals lodging and transportation. Sharpe Reservation has made the option for participants to stay in rustic camp style accommodations on-site Friday and Saturday nights for an additional charge of $60 per person.
